Celebrating a milestone
Best Senior Photographer Lancaster, California
I met with Ava and her parents to design her senior photography shoot. She mentioned that she played basketball and had a pink guitar. They also mentioned a pair of sunglasses that had special meaning to them.
We met first in the studio for the traditional portraits with cap and gown and black V-drape, along with a few of the basketball uniform.
Then we headed to the Prime Desert Woodland Preserve.
Doesn’t she look like Taylor Swift in some of the photos with the pink guitar?
The last portrait I did of her was one of my all time favorites, looking off to the future.
I strive to make the senior portraits memorable for each client. Looking for different spots in a location, tailored to just that person.
Best of luck Ava, I know you’ll do great things!

Celebrating a milestone
Joshua Style Engagement Shoot
Sometimes you donate to a great cause and you are lucky enough to meet some great people.
I was asked by a long time client, Shari if I would donate a gift certificate to a worthy cause. It’s an event to raise support for the therapy dog teams of Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles. Childrens Hospital Los Angeles Titiana K9 Fund
It’s for a great cause and I jumped at it!
The Gala was held in October last year, and I honestly forgot all about it. Then Laurie called me a couple of months ago and we chatted for a bit. She was wanting engagement photos and we decided on the Prime Desert Woodland Preserve
I met Laurie and Edward at my studio and then off we went to the desert. The corvette was a fun surprise and looked great against the orange sunset. The day was perfect and not windy.
We had so much fun and I would love to do it all over again.
See their review here.
“Julie is amazing. Made me feel comfortable taking pictures. She’s super friendly, nice, reliable and great at what she does. Made this whole experience easy and fun. If you have any questions don’t hesitate to ask her she will answer them all. Come check her out!!

Celebrating a milestone
College Graduation Portraits
Anthony and I met for a portrait consultation to find out what his vision for his photo shoot. I showed him samples locations in the Antelope Valley and he really likes the Prime Desert Woodland Preserve. Anthony wanted his College graduation pictures to celebrate all his hard work.
I’ll let Anthony tell you his story in his own words:
“1 year ago today I completed the most difficult educational challenge to date and became a full licensed X-ray technologist.
Most days I look back on the experience and I ask myself how I did it… And all I can say is God! He legit carried me through 2 years of school while working full time and trying my absolute best to be a decent father all at the same time.
He gave me the strength to leave a hospital I spent half of my life working at which allowed me to grow and gain all the experience I have today. I pray that he continues to elevate me in this life journey I’m on.
I was extremely apprehensive on doing this photo shoot (mostly because my weight) because I didn’t think the milestone was important enough to capture.
Looking at these pictures now makes me so happy because it’s a reminder of how real dedication and hard work pays off.
Thank you to Sutton Photography for capturing such amazing photos!”

Celebrating a milestone
Sweet sixteen parties are having a moment! Clients are coming in for portraits for banners that the venue displays with lights and balloon and all the rest. ladulcevidaontheblvd
Arnita and her daughter came into the studio and we talked about her vision of what she wanted for her Sweet Sixteen Birthday pictures. She mentioned her favorite color was lavender and that she loved butterflies. I had the perfect background and vision for her. My lavender fields!
Alisse had a dress just for the portraits and then another dress for the party.
When they came back to view and choose images, I had pre-designed some banner ideas for her, and she loved it!
The banner is 3 feet by 6 feet and is stunning. The venue La Dulce Vida is location on the blvd. The Blvd Lancaster
Her Mom told me that the photo shoot was so much fun and it lifted her self image so much that she is now interested in modeling.
This is what I received from Arnita (along with a couple of photos)
“Hello Julie. It’s wrap. Everything went perfectly. Thank you so much, again!”

How to get that golden glow

I want to share a few tips to help ensure a stress free experience with beautiful images to treasure of your graduate.
1. TIME OF DAY
The quality of light in our desert and unique and very different from other places, even other deserts. Our sun is intense, so heading out into the desert in the middle of the day will result in very different photos than what you will get at sunset.
You can certainly shoot in the middle of the day, but you will get rather dramatic images with lots of shadows. How that is not my preference and not my style. I have that most people want that soft, flattering light and many want the warm glow you get from that sweet hour before sunset. The quality of light is one of the most important aspects to creating great images, so time of day is important to consider.
2. HIRING THE RIGHT PHOTOGRAPHER
If you are shopping for the least expensive photographer on the block, you will find many in that budget range. Likely they are just starting out and learning how to use light or flash or how to work with clients to get great expressions. I have the experience from working with clients for years to know how to get them relaxed quickly so that the photosession is fun and easy going.
This is where having an experience photographer can make all the difference in the outcome. Someone who likes working with people, someone who can make things fun for teens but not be overly cheesy and someone who is confident with their camera, so they aren’t fumbling around. Nobody likes that!
3. STYLING CLOTHING AND HAIR AND MAKEUP
Since all teens are unique, Julie loves to make a session about capturing who they are as individuals. This means bringing and wearing clothing they feel comfortable in and that fits them well, choosing colors that flatter their complexion and wearing styles they feel as confident as possible with.
Some seniors don’t makeup but it is recommended for a photo shoot. Not only does it make your photos look better, the senior will feel more confident, and even makes the editing easier! You don’t have to overdo it, and I recommend being true to yourself, just even a little eye makeup and lip and cheek color is enough for some people
There are thousands of great tutorials on YouTube showing makeup tips, so if you are not hiring a pro, then YouTube is a great place to start and practice.
I usually suggest to my clients to bring 3-6 different outfits and we can go through them where I can suggest what might photograph best in the location, or just what works great on camera. Some clients just do 1-2 outfits total, where others want 3 different looks. Everything is custom with senior portraits!

5 Tips to start planning for your senior session.
You might be planning your senior portrait session and think you’ve thought of everything.
Food for thought.
Do you want a letter jacket in your photos?
Do you have it or do you need to order it?
It can take weeks to just get the jacket, and that’s not even taking into consideration, getting the patches sewn on it.
A local business that alot of my clients use is https://www.palmdaletrophy.com/
What about a class ring? You might already have that, but put it on the list to bring with you. I can’t tell you how many times I’ll ask a senior if they have a class ring and they say “Yes, at home”. That is disappointing!
Want to use a sports jersey? Some schools require that you get permission ahead of time, so you can reserve it and return it.
Plan out your haircut and color ahead of time. It can take weeks just to get an appointment.
Start going through your closet. See what you already have that you love and is really you. Then shop as needed to fill in the gaps

The Knollwood Country Club was the setting for the wedding of Natalie and Anthony. It was such a great celebration for friends and family of both the bride and groom. They met cute in high school when Natalie “tapped” Anthony’s car.
The ceremony was held outside in a garden area overlooking the golf course. The officiant was the same minister who had baptized Natalie as a baby!
The toasts were both moving and funny, coming with plenty of stories to embarrass them both! The buffet was incredible and it seemed like almost everyone got out on the dance floor! A great time was had by all!

Such a great day! Perfect in every way. We did mountain wedding photos in Tehachapi, CA at Jennifer’s Terrace.
It is what I would call a “secret” location, because when you enter the rustic gates, you are transported to a “secret” garden. There is a beautiful, relaxing fountain in the middle, with roses and other flowers throughout the whole venue.
The bride and groom did their “first look” photos inside the office which is a converted house. It is filled with lots of little touches and antique furniture.
With a guest list of about 50 people, it was just the right size. The ceremony included the vows and ring exchange, but with an added twist(literally). The bride and groom did the chord of 3. They did something I have never seen, they “braided the chord on a cute plaque like board.
After the “I Do’s, the guests mingled and were treated to a dessert buffet. This featured chocolate covered strawberries, breakfast like quiches, fruit tarts, a marvelous chocolate pudding and of course cupcakes. These cupcakes were the some of the best with blueberries on top and in the filling.
The bride and groom changed into their going away clothes, and Crystal Wheeler, the coordinator at Jennifer’s Terrace, had a great idea to deadhead the roses and then handed out the petals to the guests. As Jacob and Michaela walked through the pathway, they were showered with rose petals to send them on their way.

I was in a street motorcycle accident.
When I tell people I get mixed reactions. Someone once said that I brought my accident upon myself merely because I made the choice to ride a motorcycle. Some ask if someone else was on the bike, assuming I was on the back of some guy’s motorcycle.
It was my bike and I loved it. I grew up on dirt bikes, I started riding when I was five years old. This was my first street bike, I only had it 11 months. I will not ride again, by choice. I got the motorcycle mostly for commuting to college.
My accident was on surface streets, less than half a mile from my house, I was on my way home. I was going straight through a light when a girl made a left turn in front of me. I hit the side of her car at 40 miles per hour. 40 miles per hour is about 60 feet per second.
I am often told I am lucky. I hate it. I don’t feel lucky as I ache from my injuries.
True, my body appears whole. In fact, my body is more than whole. I have two screws in my left ankle. I had to repair a root tear of my medial meniscus, that’s essentially the cushion in my knee between the femur and tibia. Walking is painful. I also broke my dominant thumb when I gripped the handlebar and it pushed my thumb out of place with the force of the impact. In addition to breaking my dominant hand, I sprained my non-dominant hand.
A foot cast and hand cast in June and July is like wearing snow gloves and boots in the dead of summer. I also decided to buzz all my hair off because bathing became something I could no longer do by myself and hair became a luxury I couldn’t afford.
Everything has changed.
There are things I used to do without thought that I had to relearn or now have to learn a new way of doing them.
I had to learn to walk again, I didn’t walk for three months. I had to learn how to write again.
Some things I used to do with my dominant hand I now have to do with my other hand because my dominant hand lacks the strength or my thumb can no longer be positioned correctly. It was surprising how quickly my muscles in my arm and leg deteriorated and how long it has taken to regain strength.
I did this photo shoot as a way of celebrating my body. I also wanted to have a photo record of my body as it is now. It’s surprising how quickly my body changed and it’s difficult to accept that certain aspects will never be the same as they were. I’m 25 and this accident ruined my knees, right now that’s my biggest frustration. I’m still discovering limitations that I didn’t have before, it is beyond frustrating when I find I can no longer do something I did without thought. I would be lucky if the accident never happened. The accident was entirely the other person’s fault but she walked away. I was going straight through a green light when the other person made a left turn directly in front of me. It was around 4:30 in the afternoon on June 1st, not late enough in the day for the excuse of the sun being in the person’s eyes. It was a clear, beautiful day. Please, look for motorcycles, anticipate when there might be a motorcycle.

Julie’s adds: ” We met when I put out a call for models. You would never know that she has ever been in an accident, because she looks “whole” as she puts it. She really wanted to celebrate her journey, to show her scars as badges of honor that she survived. I was so inspired by her strength, her resiliency, and her self-acceptance.”

Color Combinations for Portraits
You don’t need to “matchy-match.” That means you don’t all need to be wearing the same color, such as the old-fashioned black turtlenecks with jeans. What we love to see is a beautiful color palette that works together. Basically choose colors that when all worn in one outfit would still look great together.
What not to wear:
Try to avoid patterns, however if 1 person has a pattern that is fine. But if everyone has patterns on their shirts, it starts to look chaotic and busy.
White. If everyone else is wearing colors, white will stand out way too much.
Adults: sleeveless shirt. Long sleeves are the most flattering shirts to all body types.
See the color combinations samples that work well together below

Insider Tips on Bridal Shows by a Wedding Professional Photographer
Bridal Show Insider Tips
Picture this. You are a bride who is planning your wedding and you have been waiting since you got engaged to meet all the wedding “professionals” in your area.
You have your bridesmaids together and enter the Bridal Show.
The first booth your approach, the person in the booth seems harried or stressed, even like you are keeping them from enjoying their morning coffee.
What gives? Truth is, they probably arrived late, didn’t have time to eat a proper breakfast, they are frantically trying to finish setting up their booth.
This is clue #1.
Do you want a wedding vendor who can’t manage their time and didn’t plan better?
Look I know things happen, the alarm didn’t go off, they had an event the night before, or their help stood them up.
But there are clues here not to be missed.
Next scenario.
You are looking for a Wedding Photographer. You go to one booth.
It looks like a photographer. It has pictures. Yet there is no sign.
There is one lone wedding album on the table.
This is clue #2.
This photographer is probably just starting out. Go ahead and look at the album. You might like the photos.
Is this a “best hits” album? In other words, is the album of different people on different days? It isn’t that hard to come up with one stellar image from one wedding. I mean that is the goal of every wedding photographer.
A true representation of a photographer’s work is a complete album of one bride and one groom from the beginning of the wedding day to the end.
What can you tell from this?
You can see if they can handle different lighting challenges. It’s probably not going to be the same light all day. You will probably go from daylight, to sunset, to indoors, to nighttime. You can see their true range.

Rancho Vista Golf Club
On to the next booth.
Here we have a caterer. There is no food to sample.
Clue #3. They are telling you about their great tasting food.
But where is it? If they don’t have any food to sample, what is the point?
I get that food is expensive, and there will be people there who just want something free, but how do they know if you are a bride or not? Pass.
You approach a booth and it has a sign for a DJ, but they are trying to pushing everything else on you.
Clue #4
This could one of those “jacks of all trades” out there. They claim to do your music, a photo booth, photographs, oh yeah videos too. Oh they can also hook you up with a tux, flowers, and a wedding dress. A wedding cake?
Wait, what?
This is just my opinion, but these bundles don’t really service the bride and groom.
Why?
Because, they would rather have a bigger piece of your wedding budget, than offer you the best in each category.
They are getting other vendors at a reduced price to do each thing, and they are not the cream of the crop (again my opinion.)
I have witnessed some pretty bad videographers who were bundled in with the DJs. These videographers have never even met the couple until the wedding day. They ask me what the bride and groom’s names are. (picture me scowling). They step in front of our shots, ask what we are going to do next, and expect me to do their job for them.
Ask yourself how important is it to know beforehand who will be working with you on your wedding day?
You approach a booth.
They ask you how you are doing. They tell you briefly what they do.
They let you look at their product.
They listen thoughtfully to any questions you may have about their products.
They show you samples.
Clue #5
Now you have hit the big leagues, the true wedding professionals.
Regardless of the vendor category, a true professional will always want to know what you want. What is the dream you have for your wedding day?
Some Tips for attending a Bridal Show:
- Make a list beforehand.
What services do you still need? What are the top 3 vendors to visit?
- When you get home or the next day: spread out the handouts you got from the show.
Can you remember who those vendors were? Did they make an impression on you?
- Call those vendors who you would most like to find out more about, in a more relaxed quiet atmosphere.
Remember this. Most vendors can only do one event a day. If you know you want someone, don’t hesitate to call them before someone else books them.
Enter the contests. Have fun. Eat, drink and be merry!

Children’s Portraits
Lancaster, CA
Cindy had visited the studio with her Mom who was having a composite design made for a memorial. She noticed the fairy portraits that I have in the studio, and loved the feeling of the wonder of it all, the look of the forest. Outfits and props were easy, as we provide all that you need for a “fairyland” portrait. She told me she wanted to have a portrait made like that of her granddaughter.
Isabella, her granddaughter is 7 years old, and she and Cindy have a special bond. Cindy said ” Isabella has a beautiful heart with a lot of empathy for others. If she sees you sad, she will give you a hug”. When Cindy lost her daughter, she said “I wouldn’t have made it without her”. She kept comforting Cindy or Momo, as she calls her.
She said, “I know a lot of people say that they are going to have their grandkids photographed, but I really meant it and am so glad that I did. Julie was very good at opening Isabella up, as she was stiff at first.” After seeing the finished portraits for the first time, Cindy said that she was “very happy with the results and very glad that she did it. ”

Business Headshots
LaKeisha contacted us about business headshots. With her, I discussed what she was looking for. She wanted images to promote her business on her website and blog, and wanted to show her real self, so that her personality would shine through. She wanted a lifestyle business session, along with a more traditional business headshot.
LaKiesha owns Thriving Ambition where she helps engineers grow their careers to help them become high powered professionals in their industry.
She blogs about careers, leadership and management to provide information and inspiration for STEM professionals.
One of the things we discussed was that LaKiesha wanted some on location business portraits as well.
Even though it is January and not super warm, we went to the park,
and it seemed everything came together, the lighting, the wind, the pose!

Wedding Photos at Le Chene
Wedding Photos at Le Chene
Wedding photos by Sutton Photography, Lancaster, CA
Le Chene French Restaurant was the setting for Chris and Amanda’s perfect wedding. Le Chene has a beautiful outdoor setting right off the patio/deck for weddings and other events. There are little vignettes all around the area perfect for photos, from a bridge, to a “bicycle” under an arch, the famous water wheel, and the neon sign out front. So many places, so little time! Chris and Amanda had a great time. They had taken ballroom dance lessons, and it really paid off for their first dance. Watch out “Dancing with the Stars”! They even danced down the aisle after they were pronounced “husband and wife”! These two are a dancing couple! We had amazing food at the reception. Those potatoes were the best I have ever had! The cake melted in your mouth, it was so light and fluffy. Chris and Amanda had thought of everything, from the decorations, to the centerpieces, to the favors that every guest received, they left nothing out! They were both fun, as well as very affectionate with each other. All the guests had a great time and everyone was so happy for the new couple. I hear that Le Chene has a great Sunday brunch. It would be perfect for a birthday or anniversary celebration. http://lechene.com/

Restoration Photos
Lancaster, CA
Restoration photos are a big part of our studio’s offering. The photos in this blog show a photo over 100 years old. Part of the background was missing and the color had shifted to a very orange tone. The people in the photo were faded and the detail just wasn’t there. I extended the background and correct the color, giving it a sepia look. If you pay attention to detail, you will see that I added a bottom to this photo that didn’t exist in the original. My client was moved to tears when she saw the finished portrait, as it showed her father as a baby, one of the few photos in existence.
We scan or photograph your old, damaged, torn, faded photos and through our photoshop skills, bring them back to life. Oftentimes, better than the photos were to start with. We have fixed photos that were water damaged, ruined by exposure to sunlight, or neglected. We can add people, remove people or change the background as well. If the photos is stuck to the glass, many times we can either scan or photograph the photo and fix it even then.

Fine Art Portraiture
Composite photos, Lancaster, CA
Fine Art Portraiture is one of my favorite things to create. I used as my inspiration my obsession with fairies and forests. I created this image using a young lady (on a plain background), with butterflies on her hand and in her hair. Then I added butterflies and created a forest, dreamlike background. A fantasy portrait, such as this, should take you to another place, and convey a feeling. The story here is about someone that exists in a tranquil, perfect place, surrounded by beauty and peace.
My model is one of my favorite muses, Brittany. She is a very poised, self assured young lady, who I love photographing.

Modeling Headshots, Lancaster, CA
On a breezy (and I mean super gusty) January day, we headed out to do some modeling
headshots of Michaela, in Lancaster, CA.
She opted for a more urban look, so we headed to downtown Lancaster.
Luckily there were some hay bales left over from some of the holiday activities, and I loved the
way the hay was the same color family as her poncho. The first photo was taken in the parking
lot of the Western Hotel.
From there we ventured to MOAH, I really liked the charcoal gray walls of the exterior.
My brave assistant was holding the reflector, and trying to not get blown away to the next county!
While Michael was changing clothes, I walked around and found some other locations,
perhaps out of the wind? I liked the MOAH sign with her blue sweater and blue eyes. I am
amazed that her hair held up so great, come to think of it, we did put a ton of hairspray in it!
It was a fun time, she was a real trooper and the results were beautiful.
Best of luck to you in your future endeavors!

n a very early summer morning, even before the sun came up, I ventured to the new row of businesses that just recently opened in Palmdale. It is a row of great businesses: Krispy Kreme, which is open 24 hours (who knew!) and has a drive through. Also included is Pizza Rev, California Bank and Trust, Yogurtland, and The Habit. It was great fun because I was able to photograph from near dark to when the sun came up. It is a great commercial location and when you have professional photos of your construction or exterior of your building, it makes a big difference! It helps to present a very professional image to your clients. I know that these businesses are very successful as when I went to talk to the managers, each business was jam packed! If you are interested in commercial photography of your business or real estate, give Sutton Photography a call.

Wedding Albums
On location weddings, Vegas
We were honored to be able to travel to Las Vegas to photograph the wedding of Chris and Krysten. I have photographed Krysten’s senior portrait, as well as their engagement session. They had planned their wedding for well over a year, and the excitement was building! My assistant, Tawnya (who came out of retirement to help me, (not literally!), couldn’t wait to go. We had out bags packed and off we went. The hotel/casino “The Aliante” was amazing. They have all these restaurants, gaming, and of course a spa. When I am photographing a wedding, I am always thinking of how the wedding album could be put together. I am thinking of series of photos to tell their unique story. I believe strongly in wedding albums as the bride and groom’s first family heirloom. A wedding album is a legacy for their children and grandchilren , ( sorry I went on a rant there!) We started out in the hotel/casino with photos of the groomsmen and then met up with the bride at the Grove. Krysten put so much thought into everything (I am giving Krysten credit for all the little details, because it’s usually the bride, but who knows!) There were little handmade signs, these great mason jars with flowers, her bouquet was beautiful. They had these great drink cozies for guest wedding favors customized just for them. It was a beautiful May day. The friends and family all gathered round during the ceremony as the minister made us all laugh and cry, right down to his socks, literally! After the ceremony, the guests went into the reception room to greet the newly married couple. The toasts were all heartfelt, along with a lot of humor. The guests all had a great time dancing and partying the night away. The DJ had almost everyone out on the dance floor. The bride and groom went all out for the cake cutting, sparing no frosting! The nightcap to the evening was the bride and groom exiting through sparklers! They walked through the line up of guests holding lit sparklers, and exited to start their life as husband and wife. It was perfect.

Product Photography
Commercial Photography, Lancaster, CA
We did a product photography session for Edward Allen Gems , who offers a unique product. The product is a digital caliper. This can be used by anyone who needs precise measurements. It is a multipurpose tool that can be used by mechanics, carpenters, and jewelers. It measures in both inches or millimeters, so you can get a very exact measurement.
Through the years, we have photographed lots of products such as quilts, estate jewelry. collections, custom auto parts, artwork, even quilts. Many of our clients tried to do this work themselves, only to find that it isn’t as easy as it looks, and the results from a do it yourself are not professional looking. Don’t waste the time and effort doing something when you can have Sutton Photography photograph your products. We will help make your brand, as well as your product look it’s best and your website or any other marketing materials look more professional.
When you visit their website, http://edwardallengems.com , you will see samples of gorgeous gems. Their work is yet another form of artistic expression. They have some of my favorites: blue lapis, turquoise, malachite, and petrified wood. They have about 50 different categories of stones for you to view. I would highly recommend taking some time and perusing their website, where you can purchase these stones. If you are interested in beautiful gems, go on over to their website, they have some stunning gems for sale. http://eagems.com

Senior Portraits
“True Colors”: This series of portraits is from a personal assignment I did. I have been thinking of doing some sort of a session with a peacock theme for some time now. I am always looking for wardrobe and props and ran across these two dresses. There were pretty small and wondered if I would ever find anyone that tiny! Luckily, Brittany fit the dress perfectly! I made the headpiece out of many peacock feathers and the applique I took off the front of the dress.
Peacocks are symbols of grace, royalty and effortless beauty. It was with this concept that I created “True Colors” to showcase Brittany’s exotic beauty, self-confidence, and individuality.
“American Gothic” : The last image that I am showcasing, is a “Twilight” meets “Dark Shadows” inspiration. As a kid, I waited every day for 4pm for DARK SHADOWS to come on TV. I devoured all the campy dialogue and the creepy characters. All the female characters were strong, beautiful women. As I put the elements of this portrait together, I imagined her in this soap opera, in a very dramatic scene, ready to take on whatever comes her way. Lights, Camera, Action!

Senior Photos
Senior Photos in Lancaster, CA
Senior Photos are a great way to show all your interests as well as illustrating your future path. Thomas is an explorer and wants to be a forest firefighter.
I thought it would really cool to show him in his turnouts in a creative way. We tried lots of different poses and I sought to illustrate the future Thomas is what I pictured to be his enviornment. It was great fun, and I didn’t even have to set anything on fire!

Senior Portrait
Senior Portraits “at last”
As a “senior, Charlien was very excited to have her senior portraits taken, at last. We got a big kick out of that! For what ever reason, she had not had them take in high school, but better late than never. Together we discussed what she was looking for. She wanted to incorporate a cape that her Aunt had given her. Hair and makeup were done by Tessa at Bella West Salon. She did a fantastic job and Charlien had “fake” eyelashes for the first time ever. The topping to it all for me was photographing her dog, Seely. She was a real sweetheart and one of the best trained dogs I have ever photographed (definitely easier than my own!). So you see, senior portraits can happen at any time, and it is never too late.

Senior Photography
This is an example of senior portraits taken in the studio. We have the black v drape and the cap and gown for your portraits. It is fun to show off the personality of the senior. I photographed Kirsten when she was a little girl and now to see her blossoming into a beautiful young lady was amazing!
The last image shows a collage that we can create to showcase your portraits. We offer this in all of our product lines, not just senior photography; such as families, children, pets, glamour, you name it. If you dream it, we can build it!

Engagement Portraits
Engagement portraits are always fun sessions, as we get to know the future bride and groom. We were excited to photograph the engagement portraits in a desert setting. The weather was unpredictable, and there was a slight chance of rain. The lighting was ever changing as the clouds moved in and out. We didn’t get any rain our during the session, but we did get some dramatic desert skies. Depending on which way we were facing would determine whether we had blue skies or dark foreboding skies. I loved both the perfect looking desert day as well as the dramatic clouds. The Antelope Valley has, in my opinion, some of the most beautiful skies. The clouds are always different. They can be fluffy, just look like they are sitting on the horizon, or almost “painted” on, almost surreal. The Joshua trees are always a great additional for impact and texture. It went from warm to cold during the session, but Heather and Michael were real troopers.
The results speak for themselves. They have some amazing images to use for their “Save the Date” cards.

San Fernando Mission Wedding
We were so excited to photograph a wedding on a perfectly beautiful, sunny January afternoon at the historic San Fernando Mission. The bride was lovely and the groom handsome, so what more could you ask for. The mission is a working mission where brides and grooms can get married. The altar is ornately decorated with gold and ornate woods. The ceremony was very special and moving. The grounds feature a special garden honoring Bob Hope. There is so much to see and enjoy at the mission from the bell that tolls on the hour to the living history that is all around you. We ventured across the street, running quickly to avoid the traffic, and meandered around the maze like park settings. The sun was just going down as we made around. Another truly memorable area. Then we made our way to the Odyssey Restaurant in Granada Hills, where the service is matched only by the great food. The bride, groom, and guests dined and danced the night away. The toast given by the bride’s father was one of the highlights of the evening. Their was a caricature artist there to render likenesses of the guests. A great day was had by all and there are so many special memories to take away from the day.

Location Photo shoots

If you are looking for something different, try a location photo shoots. Look no further than the BLVD in downtown Lancaster, CA. Here are two senior photo shoots that we did with very different looks. I love the look of a dressy styling with an urban background. Both seniors had completely different looks due to their clothing, and they was they posed as well as the lighting. Whether you want dramatic lighting or more natural we can do it! The two sessions were styled differently as Philip is into skate boarding, modeling and acting. Alexis is both a girly girl and an athlete so we were able to accomplish both!

Wedding at Newhall Mansion, Piru, CA
Beautiful November Wedding in Southern California
Wedding at Newhall Mansion, Piru,
Wedding at Newhall Manion, Piru, CA. It was a perfect Southern California fall day, warm and sunny. The wedding took place at the Newhall Mansion, built in 1890. Rich in history with a Victorian era vibe to it, it was a perfect setting for the bride and groom, truly in love. The Newhall Mansion is located in the tiny town of Piru. It is truly a hidden jewel. If you are looking for a unique place for a wedding, look no further! This location has it all. The beautiful outdoor setting comes complete with a gazebo, pool, and an outdoor dance floor. There are multiple places for guests to mingle and walk and talk. We kept remarking on how peaceful it was there. Then there is the amazing interior with multiple bedrooms, each with it’s own theme. The wedding couple left no detail to chance, making for a memorable day. From the cake, cookies, dessert buffet, the ceremony, everything was amazing and tasty! It was a day and wedding to remember. We were so honored to be there and to capture the memories forever.

Senior Portrait Extreme Session
Senior Portraits Extreme Session includes an on-location of your choosing as well as in- studio portraits. We traipsed out to the forest and had a blast! When you go outdoors for a photo shoot, anything can happen, from the weather and wind to little critters. No bugs, but possible poison ivy. Ashley was game for anything, so that made this so much fun. When you go outdoors for a photo shoot, anything can happen, from the weather and wind to little critters. Then about a week , later we met here at the studio, and did lots of fun things with all her personal interests – from pageants to sports! Loads of fun, covering everything from candid senior portraits to the more formal graduation photography style.

Portrait Painting
The first portrait is a “before” photo. The second photo shows painting that was done on the photo to render a more artistic, painterly feel. We often put our photos on canvas to give it an even more painted look.
Portrait Painting
The first Portrait is the “original” photo. The second photo is the painted version of the photo. Look at the details such as the tablecloth, bread, etc. to see the brush strokes. Many times we will put the photo on a canvas to lend an even more painterly quality.

Family Portraits
We did Christina’s family portraits in our Lancaster, CA studio. Christina wanted something different for her family portraits. We suggested a collage, taking each individual and putting all the images together. This is a way of showing each family member’s personality. From Mom and Dad to the little granddaughter, everyone looks great.Doing a collage family portrait allows each person to get exactly what they want.. Think of all the possibilities when each person can look their best and you don’t have to compromise on that one person that looks ok but not great. Each person chooses their best pose, and we put it together. This gives the portrait a very modern feel and everyone is happy! Family portraits are so important that is worth the time, effort and investment to do them. Call today for a free consultation at 661-942-4813 for a family portrait in Lancaster, Ca.

Wedding on the BLVD Winners
Jazmin and Waldo were the lucky winners of the contest for the free Wedding on the BLVD. They received a wedding valued at $17,000. Yeah, I know, it is totally amazing!
azmin got her beautiful wedding dress from Bella Bridal and everyone, including me, kept asking her if she was always that tall! She looked gorgeous! The day started with the bride getting her hair and makeup provided by Bella West Salon, hosted by Valerie Orcutt, the salon’s owner. Joining her were her bridesmaids and her lovely little daughter.
Then off to Bex for photos before the ceremony. The bridal party all came back to the studio for formal portraits ( and to get out of the heat!). We had a lot of fun with the groomsmen, as you will see!
RC Limousine transported Jazmin in style to the Bandstand at Bex. www.bexsgrill.com The ceremony was performed on the Bandstand under a beautiful arch provided by Antelope Valley Florist.
The food was fantastic and was provided by GBG Grill in downtown Lancaster. Lamplighter provided the centerpieces and they really lent an beautiful atmosphere to the reception room. Erica Allbee of All About Fitness Downtown and a board member of the BLVD association also served as the wedding coordinator.
We enjoyed doing photographs in front of the Bex sign and as you will see had a lot of fun with the wedding party on the sign. They were game for anything!

Senior Portraits 661-942-4813
Senior Photography in Lancaster/Palmdale CA
Valerie is a recent graduate. She was a great subject and up for anything. Her friends commented that she looked like a model during the session, and she really did. Her personality really comes through in these images. We always suggest a consultation with our clients before their senior portraits. We discussed clothing and made some suggestions. Valerie brought in her dress that she would wear to graduation. We scheduled her session to allow her time to do her hair and makeup and the results were stunning.
If you are interested in planning a session, please call us at 661-942-4813.

Senior Portraits hair makeup
Tristen is a high school senior, graduating from Rosamond High School, Class of 2014. She was great to begin with, but the makeup artist and hair stylist really brought out her natural beauty. I had photographed her sister a couple of years ago, and now it was Tristen’s turn to shine!
We had so much fun working with her and gettting her to “smize” with her eyes (those beautiful baby blues!). We offer hair and makeup styling not just for high school senior portraits, but also for glamour and boudoir portraits, family portraits, glamour portraits, pretty much for whatever session that you would like a little more help with hair and makeup styling.
Once again, thanks Tristen for giving us the opportunity to photograph you for this milestone in your life.

Business Headshot Portraits

Having your portraits done is a perfect excuse to be photographed and give portraits to your husband, kids, hey even your Mom would love a portrait of you!

It would be hard to imagine anyone more into pets than me, however, these fine people from Smith Veterinary Hospital loves pets just as much! We have been taking our menagerie of animals there for years. They are truly are “compassionate and caring”. The photos in the gallery are all actual employees from Smith Vet with their pets. Oh, and this is just a few of their pets, we couldn’t get them all in the portraits. For your pet photography, come to Sutton Photography, and I would highly recommend Smith Vet Hospital as a place to go for all your pet needs. Congratulations to John on receiving his degree in law. I would imagine that he worked very hard to achieve that goal! We have been very fortunate to know the family a long while. Both John and his sister, Mary Grace graduated from Paraclete and we were lucky enough to photograph their senior portraits. It has been a pleasure to see them grow and achieve their goals. Again congratulations to John on graduating with a law degree.

Future Leaders of the Antelope Valley
Two of our photography clients were featured in the Antelope Valley’s Edition of the Future Leaders.
“”In her years as an athlete at Bethel Christian School, Jazmin has seen teammates and opponents alike suffer from injuries. In the future, she’d like to be the one who helps them get back in actions. She hopes to study physiotherapy in colleges with her sights set on a career in sports medicine. Jazmin has a 3.98 grade-point averageis taking AP history and AP and composition. “Jazmin has an outstanding work ethic and a sweet spirit”, Casey Haynes of Bethel Christian said. Jazmin has volunteered at a surgical center and worked with Project Angel Food, which makes food for the sick. “knowing that you did a good deed helping out somebody who is really sick and providing food for them was really great,” she said. “The surgical institute was a really good experience,” she added ,”It really opened doors to seeings a lot of new things that maybe other students wouldn’t have access to. It was great working with doctors and getting to sit in on some surgeries and see what really goes on in their life.” Congratulations to Jazmin – Future Leader. (excerpted from Antelope Valley Press: written by Darren Vaughan)
Our second star student is Catherine, a senior at Paraclete. “When other kids said they wanted to be a teach or a firefighter, Catherine said she was interested in finding a cure for cancer. That desire was solidified when her younger brother, Randy, developed health problems after he was born more than three years ago.”the medical field saved his life,”she said. Now “he’s a perfectly normal 3 1/2 year old, running around getting into trouble.” The Paraclete senior has played volleyball since she was 11 years old, andshe was named the Delphic League Most Valuable Player and was named to the all-CIF team this past season for Paraclete. Catherine, who has a 4.3 grade point average, is so focused on her goals that this year she took calculus and physics as her electives. Catherine also volunteers at the Los Angels County Department of Children and Family Services. Her mother says that”Catherine is very driven and tries to excel at everything she does. She has been self-driven since a young age and has always been kindhearted and willing to help others around her. She is not only smart but also kindhearted. She never leaves a task uncompleted.” Congratulations to Catherine – A Future Leader of the Antelope Valley.

Photography Palmdale High School
It was a reunion of sorts for these 3 best friends. About ten years after they graduated the best friends came back to the campus of Palmdale High School for photography. It was more than a photography session ,however, it was a trip back in time to the different places on campus that meant so much to these friends. The 3 friends, Morgan, Trisha, and Sheena were buddies from the flag team. We photographed their favorites “hangouts”. Under the tree where they ate lunch nearly everyday. The front of the school, showing the logo of the school, and the track and field. We loved the bleachers, and of course, picked the exact same time as the students were “running” the bleachers to do our photography shoot! It was fun though, especially as I was not the one running. That looked a lot like work! I couldn’t believe how big the school and it’s grounds are. There are tennis courts, a handball court, so many basketball courts you can’t count. and the football field is huge!
The shoot was all about these 3 friends, reminiscing about old times! They wore their letter jackets and came ready for fun. This will add another memory to their friendship in the years to come.

Photography Instruction on Basic TTL Flash
Julie Sutton Speaker at Lancaster Photography Association
Julie Sutton, of Sutton Photography was a guest speaker at LPA (Lancaster Photography Association). www.lpaphotography.org
Julie spoke on “Taming the Best in your Flash”, the basics of on camera TTL flash. With over 20 years experience as a professional photographer, Julie recounted starting her career in film and transitioning to digital. She spoke of the need to understand how TTL flash works, by utilizing the exposure mode in the camera. She pointed over various ways that the flash can be “tricked” into giving you false exposures, such as backlighting, shiny or reflective materials, or even very dark or light clothing. Julie explained the “zoom” flash technique to give a wider range to the flashhead.
Julie Sutton is a professional photography located in the BLVD district, 44803 Beech Ave., Lancaster, CA 93534

Puppy Love Portraits
There is nothing like a new puppy, with his wiggles, and puppy breath to make someone happy! Today’s pet portrait session is all about Trigger, who is 9 weeks old and his “parents” say is part Husky and part St. Bernard. Whew, he could get really big. He was a good little boy, letting Julie have one shot and then running around, but always coming back and sitting. He is a talker and likes the Backstreet Boys, (no, really!). He enjoyed the hearts (as chew toys!). There is no better way to spend Valentine’s Day than with a companion who likes to play, likes to cuddle and nap, and gives lots and lots of kisses!
